Interested in being involved in the management of one of Merton FC's men football teams??
Merton Football Club has just celebrated its 100 year anniversary since being founded in 1910, which makes them the oldest football amateur football club in the borough - as we look forward to another prosperous century of football in the community, we are looking for enthusiastic, organised and committed individuals to put themselves forward to be considered for roles within the management teams of our 6 mens teams. We've found that our teams that have been best organised when there are 2-3 people involved in the running of a side and therefore we would like to bolster the numbers of people we have within our overall structure. Whether you are an existing player a former player or not yet connnected to Merton, if you think you have something to offer please express your interest by contacting mertonfc@btinternet.com or Mike Reed on 078 666 01010 (if contacting by phone please wait until 25th May as Mike is out of the country until then). Please pass this onto anyone who you think may be interested.
Please do this by 11th June 2010 and the committee with consider all those who express an interest with a view to finalising the management team for next season before pre season training starts in July. Many thanks Merton Football Club Events |

World Cup England vs USA 12th June
The Club Skippers have each recently received an allocation of tickets for the South Africa World Cup 2010 Night, which as you know will be held at Joseph Hood on Saturday, 12th June on the occasion of England’s opening group match with the USA. Skippers were also asked to promote the event to players, family and friends, as we are hoping to pack ’em in for this one! So, if you haven’t as yet purchased your tickets for this event please do so by contacting your Skipper immediately. If for whatever reason you cannot purchase tickets from your Skipper or perhaps you simply require additional tickets then please contact Alex Herbert who will make the necessary arrangements. Costing just £5 this is without doubt the hottest ticket in Town; indeed, World Cup football, wonderful South Africa food, beer (lots of it) and the chance to win one of two retro England 1966 shirts means this is a must attend event for you as a member of Merton Football Club. You can also purchase tickets for your family and friends. Wear your colours, paint your faces and support our boys……………..they’ll be a prize on the night for the best dressed supporter.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, 12th June. |

Policies
Merton Football Club Selection Policy
Southern Amateur League rule 8(I)(i) states that “in all matches in which it competes, each Club shall play its strongest team in its 1st XI, its second strongest team in its 2nd XI and so on” and rule 8(I)(iii) states that “clubs are expected to hold regular selection meetings or a comparable electronic selection programme to select sides of relative sectional strength”. It is these rules, as well as the aim that teams are selected on merit and that all players are members of Merton Football Club and should be available for selection for any team that informs the selection policy of Merton Football Club. Selection of squads Aim – all squads to be selected on the basis of SAL rule 8(I)(i), with availability confirmed and e-mailed to fixtures secretary by 5pm on each Tuesday where matches are due to be played on a proceeding Saturday.
Process • Each Saturday at the game, all managers / captains to check availability of each of the players present for the proceeding weekend’s fixture. • By Sunday evening, 1st XI squad to be selected and sent to fixtures secretary • By Monday evening, 2nd XI and 3rd XI squads to be selected and sent to fixtures secretary • By Tuesday 5pm, 4th XI, 5th XI and 6th XI squads to be selected and sent to fixtures secretary
In co-ordinating the squad selection process, team managers are expected to communicate to the manager of the team beneath them - the players they have selected, those not selected and those unavailable. Movement of players between squads Initial squad selection - If a player was originally named in a squad for a match and is selected in a lower squad for the subsequent weekend, he will be guaranteed to start. In the event of a player being selected in a higher squad than the one he was named in for the previous weekend, there can be no automatic expectation that the player will start. After initial squad selection – a late call up to a higher team for a player that was due to start for a lower team will guarantee a start for that player in the higher team (unless it is mutually agreed that he will be sub) and where the call up of a sub from a lower team occurs there is no expectation that the player must start for the higher team. After a late call up, the minimum a player can expect for the subsequent weekend is to be retained in the squad he was originally named in (from the weekend before) and will start if the original intention was to start him. Players returning from periods of unavailability To promote the aim that players will be selected on merit, any players return from availability will not be guaranteed selection in the squad they were last selected for and they will be entered into the pool of players available for selection. Communications Managers can choose whatever methods they deem necessary to communicate with other managers but they should be mindful that communications should be restricted to only those that need to know. This is to protect the work life balance of all those who volunteer their time to help run Merton Football Club. Where players are selected in a different squad from the week before, each manager should carefully consider how they communicate this change to the affected player and explain reasons for the decision. A selection meeting will take place each month to review the effectiveness of the selection policy. |

Coaching Disabled Footballers
Congratulations to Ian Lewis who has recently gained the Football Association Coaching Disabled Footballers Certificate. The Coaching Disabled Footballers course is designed to give football coaches ideas and practices for the inclusion of disabled players in football sessions within mainstream or impairment specific sessions. Ian attended the course run by the Surrey County FA last month at the Croygas Sports Club in Wallington and commented; ‘’I found the course not only extremely beneficial but also very enjoyable and rewarding, extending as it does my existing coaching skills and experience. More importantly though, the knowledge I have gained will allow me to better plan future coaching sessions to include disabled players’’. Details of FA nationally accredited courses for 2010 can be found on the AFA and the SCFA websites. Simply click-on the respective ‘Development’ pages and follow the links to the ‘Courses’ section. There is a wide range of courses available including Coaching, Medical, Emergency Aid, Safeguarding Children and Refereeing. Enrolment for applicants couldn’t be easier, as both the aforementioned websites now include a user friendly Online Booking facility. Further information if required is available by contacting Bob Leeds at the AFA or Craig Hicks at the SCFA. |
