Welcome to the “Merton Footballers Cricket Club”– est. 2007
Gent’s we are looking for players to join our friendly’s only cricket revolution.
Towards the end of last summer we dipped our toe in the water and played our first 2 games… which we all enjoyed and learnt from, and things can only get better after our Batting collapse which left with 0 runs for 4 wickets experience against Roehampton Wanderers and really maximize our potential!!
This season we’ve organized ourselves and are looking to recruit a bit more strength in depth, so if you have ever played cricket before (no really just the once will do) you could be just who we are looking for!
We’ve already got the fixtures setup (see below) and are looking to secure the wicket at Joseph Hood for the Home games and nets/practice will commence in Late March/Early April.
Obviously there are costs involved for the pitches, the kit, balls, teas and of course end of season awards do on AUGUST 24th where loud cricket blazers are a must!
So we are asking potential members to pay a fee of £20 to sign on, and then £10 a match.
Our aim is create a friendly relaxed partner friendly environment, create the oppurtunitys for a few good bonding nights out and just to make sure everyone gets a good game, we bowl at the stumps and win a game!
The people doing the organizing are…
Fixtures Secretary – Alex Herbert
Pitches Secretary – Lofty
Treasury and Tea Secretary - Mark Thomas
Team Captain – Dan Wells
Match Reporter – Jack The Griff

Match Reports
CARSHALTON CC v MFCC / Sunday 11th May
Team: James Rose, Lofty, Sherbs, Pearcey, Tilley, Shauno, Thomo, Cam, Darren, Browner, Lilley
MFCC - 180 -6
Carshalton 181 -8
Unbelievably and slightly worryingly Carshalton invited us to bat first!! Instructions were sent to the opening pair to get us off to a steady start "don't worry about runs just stay in"! AND THEY DID EXACTLY THAT!
9 overs gone and ten runs on the board! However both James Rose & Lofty were very watchful and did the job of seeing out the opening pair!! After which Lofty lost concentration to a straight one.
The second string bowlers were not as good and Sherbs and James began tucking in on the bad balls. James eventually trying one slog to cow corner too many! (A manful way to go though!!)Pearcey came in and looked a competent bat, until his 3rd ball when the temptation to slog a ball across the line on middle stump was too much for our man - bowled! The reluctant Tilley who looked like he had been born with a bat then came in and pleasantly stroked the ball round the park despite being somewhat lucky when dropped on 9. Tilley & Sherbs then had MFCC's biggest ever partnership 41 before Sherbs tried to hit one too many, and dollied a catch to covers. Thomo an Cam both came in with great cameo knocks at the end - thomo cow cornering his first ball for four & Cam very close to hitting MFCC's first six!! And incredibly a total of 180-6 was created!! Dreamland for MFCC, gone were thedays of 0-4! One note for poor shauno who took up wher Gash left off!But it was a good ball!
Defending the total seemed very plausible until their captain got his eye in! Browner & thomo combined to produce the moment of the match & possibly the season when a great ball from browner was edged an Thomo diving right caught two handed at 1st Slip! Genuinely champagne cricket! Browner & darren were certainly a solid opening bowl pair. Then ther captain started parking every ball all over the groung punishing anything slightly off line. Sherbs, Glenn & thomo took the brunt of this & quickly decided it was a good idea for someones else to receive this punishment and brought Tilley on! He quickly got a wicket - 84-2 off 19 overs hmmm!
But then the game took a dramatic turn Cameron off an incredibly long run up came into the attack & with an ecclectic mix of beamers & good lenght deliveries started making inroads! He also clean bowled captain marvel who by then had made 87 off about 45 balls! This signalled a collapse and Carshalton found themselves 150 - 6. With a very good spell from Lofty who got his usual LBW decision.
MFCC got them down to 179-8 when a crucial drop in the field occured at square point which would have left us needing one wicket and really putting the pressure on!
A good game by all accounts. Darren, Browner & Cam & Lofty all bowled well!
