Centenary Events Programme Centenary Cricket Challenge Date: The original date has been cancelled, new date to be confirmed Joseph Hood Recreation Ground A Merton XI will contest a Pro35 Challenge match against a Wimbledon Cricket Club Select. In keeping with best cricketing tradition, the Bar will remain open throughout the afternoon, with past and present Club members encouraged to come down and support the Merton cricketers and enjoy a beer or two. Play starts at 2.00pm. All Club members wishing to be considered for selection should contact Alex Herbert on Alex.Herbert@spiritmg.com Brighton August Festival (Brighton Rocket) CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST Friday, 6th August 2010 Brighton Racecourse Travelling by coach from Joseph Hood to this East Sussex seaside course, Merton’s race goers will enjoy trying to empty the bookies’ satchels of cash on Brighton Rocket day, which is the final day of Brighton’s famous three-day August Festival meeting. The £25 cost to our Club members also includes a Grandstand & Paddock enclosure ticket/badge, allowing access to the main Grandstand, the Long Bar and it café, the Seafood Bar, Tote Betting facilities, the Parade Ring and the Picnic Area. Brighton Racecourse is one of the most exciting, vibrant tracks in the South of England and with its fantastic location; this event will be a sell-out. We are taking bookings now so if you don’t wish to be disappointed, you should contact the Centenary sub Committee today on mertonfc@btinternet.com to reserve your seat/s on the coach. Centenary Fixtures (SAL Representative XI and Lloyds TSB Invitation XI) Sunday, 5th September 2010 Joseph Hood Recreation Ground A Merton Football Club XI consisting of players selected from the Senior Squad will face a Southern Amateur League Representative XI in a special fixture to mark the Club’s Centenary. Kick-off is 2.00pm. A few hours earlier and definitely a spectacle not to be missed, connoisseurs of the ‘Beautiful Game’ will marvel at the quality on show as a Merton Football Club Vets XI managed, coached and captained by Roger ‘Dodge’ Asling face Mike Sweeney’s Lloyds TSB Bank Invitation XI. Kick-off is 11.00am. After the matches there will an opportunity to enjoy catching-up with friends from around the SAL over drinks and food in the Clubhouse. There will also be the obligatory after match presentations, including the ‘Man of the Match’ awards and mementoes for the players and match officials. |
