Results for season 2007 - 2008

13th January
Merton Womens 2 -1 Tooting & Mitcham (League) (Away)
Scorers: Fatty 2
Report: Merton Ladies grinded out a fanatic result against inform Tooting and Mitcham United. Tooting and Mitcham having only lost once all season in the league were in for quite a surprise when Merton turn up and perform their best game this season and won 2.1.
In the first half it was a very even game with both teams cancelling each other out and little goal action for either side. It had to take something special for the break to happen and Fatty was the player to provide it. Fatty who hasn’t played since November and has been badly missed won the ball and with her tricky skill, got passed three players before shooting from just outside the area scoring a great goal making it 1.0 to Merton Ladies. Shortly after going 1.0 Fatty with her tricky skill again won a free kick from just outside the area and scored again directly from the free kick making it 2.0 to Merton. This rattled Tooting and Mitcham and were very eager to get back in the game. They put on more pressure on the defence but the defence stayed strong with the fullbacks Emma Peason and Katie Nash who both had a tremendous game keeping their very talented wingers quiet. Merton held on to the two goal lead until half time and were very happy with their 1st half performance.
Tooting and Mitcham came out in the second half and were determined to get back into the game. They up their paste and were rewarded shortly after the start of the second half with some good play down the right and a good finished by one of their midfield players breaking though the middle making it 2.1 to Merton. Tooting and Mitcham continued to battle on with a desire to get that second goal but Merton stayed strong with everyone on the team putting in a hundred percent.
Tooting and Mitcham tried everything to get another goal. They were switching the wingers every 10 minutes, changing their strikers and tackling hard. But they could not get though Merton’s defence who were excellent throughout the game as well as safe hands keeper Ali who picked up every though ball and did two good saves from powerful shots.
The home team didn’t have it all in the Second half. Merton created some good chances with Nugget narrowing missing the goal from a long range effort and Muffy taking up some outstanding positions and putting in some brilliant crosses into the box, but no one was there to get the third goal for Merton. It became a very tense last 10 minutes with Tooting and Mitcham throwing everything at Merton. However Merton continued to stay strong and won the game 2.1. A deserved win for Merton Ladies with some outstanding individual performances.

18th November
Merton Womens 3 -1 London United (League) (Home)
Scorers: Muffy
Report: ‘Muffy’s Threesome’
On one of the coldest, wettest, depressing Sunday afternoons at Joseph Hood Merton pulled off a great victory against a new look London United side featuring former Merton striker Anna Smith. After letting Ms Smith sneak the first goal early on, Merton soon took control of the match. Muffy was excellent once again and her efforts were rewarded with her first hat trick of the season. So despite the miserable conditions it was a great team effort and has set the women back to winning ways with a bitterly cold 3-1 victory.
