Merton 9 vs 2 met police

Second away game on the trot took us to a sunny Ember court where we convincingly beat a lively met police reds 9-2.
with the team in confident mood despite absences from key players, We played a cavalier 3-2-1 formation attacking with power and conviction from start.
First half, mets goal was under constant bombardment and we went into the break 5-0 up with the game effectively won in what was the best first half performance of the season so far.
With a new Starting line up Our boys tackled, battled, passed and played superbly as a unit with power and passion. The defending techniques from training was evident across the field. We showed good linking team play combined with good individual skill.
Danielus kept concentration in goal, man of match Kalyan was awesome as last man, Presley and Callun in midfield both excellent, Jack unstoppable on the left, Harry ran his socks off and best personal performance so far on the right, doo Ho ran mets defence ragged as centre forward.
Sam and Tom came on in the second half and the met to there credit came out fighting and managed to nick a couple of goals as we experimented with different positions but still won the half comfortably.
Overall an entertaining game, 5 players on the scoresheet, and lovely atmosphere and fantastic support from our parents. A good day. 3 games 3 wins.
Most memorable moment of the match awarded by calluns dad was when a fine team attack ended with a through ball to doo Ho who rounded the keeper running wide to the left, side footing to goal the ball rolled slowly just crossing the line before the defence reached it….thanks for the tension doo Ho!

Merton 9. Mitcham park colts 1

First away match for the new under 9’s team at mitcham park Merton came away convincing 9-1 winners.

Mitcham kicked off and Immediately lost possession to a very fired up merton team who attacked goal and forced the first save of the game within a minute. Merton dominated and the home team where unable to get out of there own half. On the fifth minute the ref stops the game at the instruction of mitcham park secretary, who announced they had fielded the wrong team.

After some delay the match eventually started with the correct mitcham team and to the credit of the Merton boys all the drama did not put them of the stride. It was same again as Mitcham where pinned back in there own half and not long before the goals started flying in.

Best moment of the match voted by our pitch Marshall Winta, was when Darius dispossessed a mitcham player on the halfway line, blazed down the right beating defenders along the way to the touch line and put over a perfct cross for Tom playing in only his second competitive game to strike home beautifully on the half volley.

Overall, a great team performance, Merton dominated and outclassed mitcham park colts with skill, effort, determination and discipline. 4 boys on the scoresheet with only 1 shot on target against, which went in!!!

Mitcham park colts manager summed up the Merton team performance.

“Great effort, great minds, great teamwork”

Merton vs Claygate  10/9/16

11       –       1

Match report by Ben Ind

1st quarter

score at start : 0-0

score at end   : 0-0

A frustrating period for Merton in which they dominated  but could not  turn dominance  into chances.

The closest they came were two one on ones that were well blocked by the keeper. Claygate could barely get the ball , let alone  mount a serious attack.

2nd quarter

score at start : 0-0

score at end : 5-0

Finally,  Merton broke the deadlock with some well taken goals,

something that their high pressing deserved.  One of the main talking points was Merton’s 3rd goal, which , had it not gone in, would have aroused a serious case for a Merton penalty. A Claygate defender  appeared to block a Merton shot with their hand, but the ball then fell to a Merton forward who then scored the 3rd goal.

3rd quarter

score at start : 5-0

score at end  :  8-0

Merton finished off the game with three more goals to put the game beyond Claygate.

Merton struggled for goals in the first few minutes, much like the first quarter , but an own goal  set them off.

4th quarter

score at start : 8-0

score at end   : 11-1

Claygate finally managed to get on the scoresheet at the end.

A good counter attack ended with a powerful shot past the Merton keeper.

Merton added a few more  but the game had been realistically over for a long time.

Summary

A one-sided affair in which the promising Merton side were not truly tested.

Other

The Merton coach said after the game  that their weakness  was slow starts  but he was  pleased with the way their high pressing worked.
