A great day of football organised by Mitcham Park where 8 teams competed in two groups of four.
Our boys were in a very tough Group 1 with Sutton United, AC Fulham and Mitcham Park Stripes; Group 2 was formed by Mitcham Park Colts, AC Fulham Colts, Corinthian Casuals and SCR Colts.
Our first match against Sutton United was well fought but, despite a great team effort, the more experienced Sutton United came out with a good win with a round result.
The boys kept their heads up and regained confidence in the second match against Mitcham Park Stripes. There was plenty of good football from both sizes. The game ended with a Merton FC tight but deserved win.
Our last match against AC Fulham saw a great performance in the first half where Merton FC had several chances to finish the half ahead of the opponents but the half finished with a draw. Fulham AC went ahead at the beginning of the second half with a good team combination. Our boys tried to equalise throwing everything they had but were left exposed to Fulham’s counter attacks and the game was lost perhaps with a result a bit too unkind.
The tournament’s final was played by Sutton United, winners of Group 1, and Fulham AC Colts, winners of Group 2. The game was won deservedly by Sutton United. However, all teams displayed good football and a great attitude towards the sport and were all rewarded with medals.
A big thank you to Mitcham Park FC for organising such a great event.

Another great game of football at the Hood with the U8s taking on Walton Casuals Stags. A very balanced game that saw both teams playing a very open end to end match, with quick counter-attacks and great passing football.
With great support from both sides, in the last quarter, the game progressed to a thrilling end. With a few minutes to go the visitors seemed to have secured a victory. However, the Merton FC boys never gave up and, with a couple of minutes to go, they turned the score around with two late goals, product of great team play, to make the final score 5 – 4.
The MOM was given to Oscar for his outstanding performance.
Well done to both teams and thanks to all the spectators.

Trophy event today for the MFC U8’s at KPR’s ground in Kew. 4 teams took part – Carshalton Athletics Green, KPR, Wandgas Youth and MFC. First up was
MFC v Wandgas, we had Aarya in goal and our captain for this match was Joseph. It was a very tense game, especially for the supporters! Great football from both sides and it was a tight game throughout, but thanks to some fantastic work in defence from Miller, a great goal from Jayden and then another from Joseph, assisted perfectly by Lee, the match ended 2-0. Our next opponents were KPR. For this match we had Miller in goal and he was also captain. Again, really good football, talented players from both teams but MFC were on a roll. Thanks to a great shot fro Freddie, who worked his socks off the whole game, and despite a good effort from the goalie, it hit the back of the net. With Oscar awesome on the wing and helping out in defence, Aarya working hard and winning the ball for the team in midfield, Jayden rock solid and tireless in defence, another great pass from Freddie to Joseph, who in the perfect position, chipped it in the left corner, the match ended 2-0. We had a welcome rest before our next game, the supporters went off for coffee to calm their nerves whilst Marcello and Tony kept the boys focused. In our final match we met Carshalton. Captain was Jayden and goalie Freddie. In both earlier games we’d seen some great football and this game was no different. Carshalton took an early lead but it was MFC’s day. A well-deserved goal from Lee who showed great skills up front and a perfectly placed cross from Miller to Joseph, who was ready and waiting, and with a flick of his head, as if he was Diego Costa, we had goal number 2, the winning goal. I was a really great day for MFC but we definitely met some tough opponents. There was some real talent on the pitch from all sides, and it was great to see the football played with such enthusiasm and good spirit. It was decided that as the whole team played so well, it was impossible to choose a MOM so it was a great big cheer to them all.
