Merton travelled to Hayes (Kent) for a tough encounter with a young Wilsonian’s side. The game was played in strong winds, drivingrain and cold conditions as the winter hit our season. The pitch at Hayes Lane was outstanding.

Merton started the stronger of the sides and hit the bat through Sean M after 10 mins. This was followed by a series of 6 back to back corners that Wilsonians somehow managed to survive. After controlling the game for 20 minutes and playing slick passing football, Merton took their foot off the pedal. Wilsonians broke the deadlock with their only effort on target as Merton were sloppy from a freekick, allowing the 5ft tall forward to head in unmarked.

This sparked Merton into life and Denys maintained his goalscoring run with a neat lob following an Ian Jordan through ball. The second half was pretty much uneventful as both sides cancelled each other out. I have a feeling Wilsonians will be there or there abouts in the shake up for promotion.
