Merton arrived on a freezing cold Sunday morning at Bedfont FC.
Not joking you could touch planes as they flew over being so close to ground.
We got changed in new white kit…looked really cool.
1st half was hard work as we battled to break Bedfont down.
The away team goalkeeper pulled off some great saves and 0.0 at half time.
2nd half we stepped up pressed high up pitch and gave them no room.
Rohan came on to midfield and put solid tackles in which shook up the opposition.
Steve Gumble then unleashed a bullet shot rifle into back of net…..this opened flood gates…..another goal from William and Cormac.
In fairness Bedfont did well to hold and we really did not play well…..was a cold morning.
We now march onto Semi Final for 2nd year in a row….big game Sunday against Roehampton to decide if we can make another final.
Whatever result we have a great team based on solid work ethic and amazing support.
Darren manager called me during week to wish us well and reiterated what a grwat bunch of discipline boys we have who are credit to club and thenselves….very humbling.
Wish us luck we will need it.

Time to blow cobwebs away and play footy.

We are back in Cup as we were informed opposition had played overage players and we automatically get win as a result.

Sunday very mild conditions we had just one substitute available.

Ref blew whistle and within 1 minute we had gone a goal down.

We quickly equalised through Zion …. as he accelerated onto ball from Cormac through ball……

Half time 2-2.

2nd half Zion picked up another hatrick thats 4 already this season from a very talented player.

Ollie was like a cheetah on wing…cut inside and was taken out … penalty crowd screamed and Ref agreed.

Ollie stepped and placed it in low right corner for his 1st goal of season.

Cormac scored another screamer top left corner leaving goal keep flapping in mid air…. he loves to score these Brazillian stunning goals.

Team played so well and to be fair Hounslow were class…if Thomas had not been gone in goal it could easily been a defeat as he pulled off some amazing saves.

Next week we are at home in Qtr finals…

Big thanks to parents for another great turn out.

Onwards we go.

We arrived with 2 subs on a freezing cold wet windy pitch in Hamworth.

Team warmed up thoroughly and we stuck to our mission …. keep ball on ground and pass pass and pass.

6 minutes into first half ball was fed through to Cormac… who twisted righr and then and then again and finished with a curler into top left of net.

10 mins ball was again played through and Steven lept like a olympic jumper onto ball and slotted ball low into goal.

By this time i could not feel my hands…. was it trembling from match play plus totally frozen.

We kep attacking pass after pass came and their keeper certainly had warm hands as he saved shot after shot.

Half time my oppo manager and I bantered as I offered to buy his keeper for hot dogs and hot drinks.

Made some further changes and then 2 further goals came Steven road runner Gumble great shot bang into net.

Cormac Little Messi went on a run and his low gravity and twinkle toe feet executed another fine finish.

This team has lost 1 game in 8 and we are really developing….we now know best positions for boys and this brings depth and strength.

Great team effort…. just shows play ball on ground and pass you can win.

Thanks parents…. great support.

Merton FC U11s 4  AFC Walcountians 4
We turned up on a beautiful sunny morning…pitch looked great right up there with Wembley.

Away team took lead as we switched off and cost us.

Then start of a magnificent display of passing and moving from midfield to striker Zion who banged in 4 goals yes I repeat 4 goals.

Zion speed like a bullet from a gun scared defence everytime.

He scored a top right goal into roof of net from penalty spot….. well done on a great performance.

Steven Gumble was like colossus today and provided strength and accurate passing whole game.

Thomas in goal pulled off some world saves and we were very grateful.

In fairness we dug deep and never gave up.

Draw was a fair result and we continue unbeaten in all 4 matches.

Onwards we March to next challenge.

On a beautiful Sunday morning u11s with a full squad including 4 subs for 2nd week in a row….. were ready to take on Claygate.

We started a little slow and went 1 goal down…. boys were reminded of training ….pass and move…..set and take.

We bounced back with a great team goal and Cormac scoring a goal with his left foot curling like a boomerang into goal.

Passing then just continued and it looked like a field of buttercups as we swarmed all over Claygate goal.

Steve smashed in a goal….like a torpedo from a sub… locked onto target and Boom.

Zion got 3rd goal and was on fire throughout the whole game… showed trickery and zap…. smash grab ball flew into net of his finesse finish on his left foot.

We March on and once again great team bond and parents…. we love you guys.

Next week we travel Hampton Rangers.

Today saw Merton FC under 11’s first match of the season, a 10am home game at Joseph Hood.

Our oppenents last years top side Doverhouse Lions, who had comprehensively beaten us in a pre season friendly.

Mertons’ day got off to a bad start with only 8 players available in time for kick off. Even with this setback we started brightly, and put Doverhouse under pressure. After numerous attacks from both sides we managed to take the lead with a well taken finish. Our lead lasted only for a few minutes as Doverhouse found an equaliser when merton were slow to clear a loose ball. This small setback did not deter the yellows as they pressed foward once again, and found a well deserved second goal to take a 2 – 1 lead into half time.

After the break Doverhouse began to find their stride, and began to move the ball around with more effect. As a result of this we began to tire, and Doverhouse made us pay scoring six unanswered second half goals, resulting in a 7 – 2 defeat.

Allthough this may have been disappointing result it was a massive improvement on Our pre season encounter, and there were many good points noted throughout the game.

So on to next week Our first trophy game at home to SRC Colts lots to work on, but we can do it COME ON YOU YELLOWS

Merton FC second match of the season brought us Our first Trophy match, an 11:30am kick off at The Hood Vs SRC Colts.

A bright sunny morning greeted us with an outstanding turnout, of both players, and supporters. The game kicked off on time, to a quite scrappy start with a few mistakes from both teams, but nobody could take advantage. As the half time whistle blew the game stood at 0 – 0.

After a hopefully encouraging team talk the yellows returned to the pitch with the instructions of pass it quicker, work harder, and get me a quick goal ringing in their ears. This seemed to do the trick, when cutting in from the left a magnificent strike flew into the top right corner.

This was just what Merton needed now we had a taste for it, as we pushed for a second it soon came. Now everone wanted to be a striker, and we left Ourselves very open at the back, but thanks to a few good saves maintained Our 2 -0 lead.

Regaining Our shape the Yellows continued to press, and soon scored goals three, and four. With only a few minutes to play, we unfortunatley conseeded a silly consolation goal with a slight lack of concentration, but imediatley regained Our four goal advantage with a powerful finish.

A FANTASTIC 5 – 1 victory, and lots of happy faces. A great team performance with contributions from everyone, a special mention today for Our Goalkeeper, and Our Hatrick Hero you know who you are. Up next Epsom and Ewell Colts away, watch out the Mean Machine is on the move, COME ON YOU YELLOWS.

Merton FC U-11s’ made hard work of beating lowlySCR Colts.
Numerous chances went begging and both post and bar were hit before Merton finally took the lead. Kieran picked up the ball on the right hand side and using his electric pace and surged past 2 defenders before rifling the ball into the roof of the net with his right foot. Illane, Deveonte and Thomas all had shots well saved, leaving the score at 1-0 at the break.
Further chances were missed at the start of the second half and this seemed to give SCR renewed hope and they equalised from close range following a defensive mix up. Rather than deflate the team, this seemed to inspire Merton and they retook the lead with a brilliant individual effort from Devonte, he waltzed past 3 players before slotting the ball past the on-rushing goalkeeper.
The 3 points were clinched when Nikoy intercepted a goal-kick and rifled the ball into the corner.
Man of the Match: Thomas Meredith for his excellent passing and link up play
