This was the first match of the season in the second tier of SYL. Claygate Royals have just come down from Div 1 so it was going to be a real test for our team.

We had to defend from the off as Claygate pressed us hard ,and Josh and Jack did well under sustained pressure. Sam made some great saves but Claygate scored just before half time.

In the second half Merton continued to defend, with Tommie getting in some good tackles but in the end it wasn’t enough as Claygate scored another 5 goals.

Disappointing as the result was, Merton should be proud of the way they battled right to the end of the match against a difficult opposition, Claygate’s coaches complimented us on our defending and our great team spirit.

On a sunny, but chilly, spring lunchtime the Merton Under 10’s met the Old Walcountians. With some big names missing this week, the Merton 7 would have to play the whole match with no subs.
For merton’s first goal, Jemal got the ball one on one – there was no doubt when he danced round the defender and scored.
Ted, working hard down the left, produced some lovely footwork to supply Jemal, whose run provided the perfect pass to William, who cooly slotted home his first goal for Merton.
More great work on the left resulted in a corner, superbly taken by Ted and converted by Jemal.
Old Walcountians rarely got forward but when they did everything was caught by Oliver in goal, or defended expertly by Christian and Tom.
Steve worked hard down the right and his angled shot was saved well by the keeper. The score was 3-0 at half time.
Merton came out very tired at the start of the 2nd half and with some quick passing, Old W’s scored.
This jump-started the Merton boys into action, after a run from Steve, a lovely pass to Jemal, who controlled the ball and passed to William who scored his 2nd goal and Merton restored their 3 goal advantage.
William, full of confidence, tried a Ginola-esqe looping shot which went just wide.
Merton, totally dominating now created another – Jemal ran onto Steve’s cross, went on a mazy run and scored for his hat-trick.
Then came the goal of the game, maybe even the season. After some lovely passes from midfield, Steve’s challenge looped up, he headed it onto Tom, who played a perfect 1-2, passing it back to Steve who crossed it to Jemal in the middle, he turned with the ball and scored his 4th. Barcelona-esqe!!
More to come – William got the ball in midfield and from well outside the box, shot low and completed his hat-trick.
Again Jemal and William worked well together and a Jemal cross provided William with the opportunity to score his 4th. 8-1.
A fantastic team effort – Ollie in goal was great as usual and did everything that was asked of him, which wasn’t too much thanks to the amazing defensive pairing of Tom and Christian. Ted had his best game of the season, running up and down the left wing.
Man of the Match – William. His Brazilian and German heritage shone through!
With the work ethic and the natural footballing ability of this team, it’s onwards and upwards…bring on the cup final!

All boys turned up on a cold windy pitch in Hersham.

Started really well with 2 great goals from Jam Jam up front. Oliver Khan in goal then produced 2 really important saves.

2nd Half Jamal assisted 2 goals for Zion to score and then another assist for Thomas.

Nayam was man of match and was like a collosus in centre defence with outstanding heading and control with ball.

Merton were so strong and this could easily have resulted in us scoring 10+ goals only Walton FC keepers kept score down.

Onwards to cup final date to be confirmed….we really hope whole club can come and watch these youngsters on the day.

Mean the world to them a great crowd.

Must end on 2 points…….managers Steve and Matt for all their tireless effort and parents who are so great and always cheer lads on.

Big thanks to all….. Wembley here we come.

From banks of river Wandle to shores of Scilly Merton U10s continue marching to cup victory.

Away to CB Hounslow they gave a brilliant display of passing and moving and destroyed opposition 7-1.

3 Jamal
2 Zion
1 Stevie
1 Nayman

Nayman goal curved like a boomerang into top corner.

Jamal danced like a beat boxer around the goal using his twinkle feet and smashing ball into net like an exocet missile.

Zion ran faster than Usain Bolt down wing and finished with 2 surplime finishes.

Stevie continued with his great discipline and finished with a great goal from a Jamal pass.

Hard work continues and if we stay with passing and moving who knows we could reach cup final.

Christian in defence and midfield was as solid as a rock and goes from strength to Strength.

Tom and Ted were on fire hot on ball.

MOM tough call….. Nayman for all his hard work and control.

Onwards we travel to next journey

Team arrived with 1 sub today to face Wallington U10s in League Cup.

We had beaten them twice this season and lost once.

We got off to poor start going 2 goals down in 5 minutes and I reminded boys to remember what we had discussed before kick off pass and move.

We soon came back to 2-2 and then 2nd half we went 6-2 up.

Great goals with cracking bullet thunder bolt header from Zion….William played brilliantly in midfield and Jamal scored 2 set up 3 which Zion scored hatrick and 1 own goal coming from a Stevie cross which Wallington defender sliced like a pizza into his own net..

Another example of teamwork and staying focused on passing and movement off ball.

Very proud moment for all parents and management. .. this is a special team.

MOM this week William in midfield first great work and commitment shown.

Onwards we go to next round.

Excellent team performance under new skipper Steve Gumble who chased every ball and played exceptionally.

Jamal had a quality game with outstanding passing and movement off the ball and scored 4 goals.

Oliver Cat In goal produced a triple wonder save which left crowd speechless… really important moment in match.

Rohan had his best match ever and overall team really passed well and really starting to jell for each other.

Big thanks to all parents for coming and hats off to Managers, Matt and Steve for all their great work on building this team and encouraging boys to produce their best efforts.

On a wet and windy Sunday morning in Thornton Heath, Merton FC U10s were looking for their 2nd win in a row.
Players all turned up and a really good warm up before kick off was implemented all credit to Nayon dad who is clearly a very good coach.
Ref blew his whistle and we went 1-0 up though Jamal with really good run and even better finish.
Thomas scored the 2nd as we went 2-0 up with another top corner finish.
3rd Goal was own goal but would not have happened if Stevie Gumble had not chased down the defender and caused them to make a mistake.
4th Goal game from Stevie as he ran onto ball from a good pass and finished clinically into bottom corner.
Wallington goal was a free kick 20 yards out – hot with wind for them – went like a torpedo – Olllie got his hand to the ball and almost saved it – sure his body was still shaking with the power of the shot 10 mins later.
4-1 at half time.
2nd half they really came at us and our amazing sweeper Nayon was there to pick up the pieces – solid as a rock and very calm under pressure.
Ollie – safe hands Laughton produced a couple of good shots and was unable to keep out both Wallington goals……. 2 really impressive shots.
Team are back to winning ways – and we can now see clear passing and desire to chase every ball.
Big pat on the back to all involved – From banks of River Wandle to shores of Scilly we support mighty Merton Football club as we climb to top of the league.
Back home in warmth now – bring on Mitcham Park FC next week – we are ready – we are steady and we are together — united —

Sunday 11th October 2015
Merton FC v Wallington Wanderers
K O 11am Final score 2-3

Shame we lost this week!
First half kicked off with a few nice passes making the first goal ten minutes in to the game, a ball came through from Thomas was picked up by Jamal then onto Harry to score our first well worked goal, W,W passed a few good balls making Oliver then have to work hard to keep those shots out which he did with great confidence , Ariane cleared a great cross made by WW but then soon came the second goal
To make 1-1 then just before half time came another try by Thomas, unlucky!
2nd half kicked off with WW scoring with a great goal … Another nearly came from W,W with a great run down but Oliver making a great save . Then we managed to break through with Jamal scoring another great goal to make 2-2. A free kick was given to WW and once again Oliver saved the day with another great save, but soon after with minutes to the end it became 2-3 with a good goal from WW ,unlucky Oliver !
Motm -Harry ,well done Harry !and also Oliver for keeping us in the game!
Many thanks to the church for feeding us Tea , Coffee and Cake on the line .

The sun was shining as merton kicked off to play old walcountians and within a minute Jamal had scored our first goal! This was the shape of things to come and by ten minutes in Zion and Jamal had taken merton up to 3-0.
Old walcountians scored their first goal after thirteen minutes but Jamal and Zion battled on and after abit of persistence scored our 4th goal.

Second half became a real battle with old walcountians defending hard and scored their second goal, but our boys did not give up and eventually finished the game with an impressive result of 8-4!

Well done boys!
