BBQ day down at the Hood, interspersed with some football. The latter of which wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of Dave Golding this morning, who filled in some nasty cracks with top soil. A big thanks to him and his crew of helpers. Onto the football, and the 1s went down by a cricket score, 11-0 (some reaction from the manager in the pics below). 2s went down 3-0, 5s won 3-1 (Pete, Dwayne and an OG the goalscorers) while the 6s drew 3-3 – the highlight of which was a Roberto Carlos-esque free kick from Reece Szreider. 4s oppo did a no show.

Todays Results – 1s/2s won 2-1 at Cambridge Heath with goals from Dan Rist (a 40 yarder with keeper off his line) and DQ who usually does his scoring in August. the 5s/ 6s lost 3-1(Pete scored) in what was a very good game at Old Lyonians!! Dobson was our MoM but DOTD was keenly competitive and joint with Nikko/Kieran/Delman sharing the award. Pic of our victorious team but the remaining pics are from the 5s/6s Well done lads. 3/4s drew 3-3 with some strong performances from some of the new boys!

Wonderful scenes (and a mixture of physiques) at the Hood on Saturday, as Denys and his willing team of helpers head down to give the Hood a refurb. A big thank you to all who came down, and also a gracious request to you all to pop down for the next installment (free beer vouchers are part of the deal). Contact Denys to find out how you can help him improve our beloved clubhouse…

Time is running out to join our new Last Man Standing predictor game. Cut-off to join is 5pm on Friday (as the first Premier League game is on Friday night). Calling all you guys who care about your club! As you know we are funded solely by our members & cash is hard to come by.

Our landlords Merton council are reluctant to commit to spending money on improving our building at Joseph Hood. Therefore we are left to do it ourselves.

This summer we would like to decorate the clubhouse, dressing rooms and other areas both inside and out.

To keep costs down we are appealing to you as caring members of your club to help us improve your Saturday home ….

It is not important what skills you have, just help out with all kinds of jobs.

There are a few minor electrical jobs as well as some plumbing. The main issues are painting, cleaning the outside & the fencing …

If you can spare a few hours to help, it would be very much appreciated by all.

The club will of course provide refreshments & snacks to keep you going…..

Paint, brushes, rollers, cleaning materials etc’ will also be provided by the club……

If you could let me know if you can help and when, I and the members will be so pleased that you all helped to make the Hood a better place to be on a Saturday afternoon/evening …..

No matter how you can offer your support will be fantastic….

Please contact me (Dodge) [email protected] or 07879546090

Thanking you all in anticipation

Yours in sport,

Roger Asling

Hon President Merton Football Club
