Not the best set of results today (other than for the Scottish rugby team )… the 1s put in an improved display, but went down 1-0. The 2s (pictured) had the best result of the day, securing a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Wilgo and DQ. The 3s lost narrowly 2-1, Denys chiming in with yet another goal this season. The 5s had a day to forget, going down 4-0. And the 7s suffered a second-half meltdown, losing 5-2 after being 2-0 up at the interval. Onwards and upwards lads!

Well, a mix of everything in the results today. Let’s start with the good/great news…
The stupendous 6s advance to a CUP FINAL after a remarkable 4-3 triumph AET in North London. Tony with the winner, allegedly on half a leg. Congratulations to Kev and his lads. Now to bring some silverware back to the Hood!
The 1s had a day to forget, going down 7-1. The 2s pulled off a fine 3-1 win, despite Sherbs earning himself a sin bin. Haydn was MOTM on the day, picking up a goal and… a nasty knee injury for his troubles. Wilgo and Dan Rist with the other goals. The 3s went down 4-0. The 4s had another maddening afternoon, going down 4-3 after leading 3-0 at half time. Tough one to take. To round things off, the 5s pulled off an impressive 2-1 win, with Aaron Byrne the goal-scoring hero, and Kieran Lee the man of the moment between the sticks, making a vital penalty save. Great work chaps!

Just the 3 games on today then. The 2s came away with a creditable 1-1 draw in their game. Ackers with the goal. Man most handsome and man least handsome are pictured – you can guess which is which (clue: least handsome defended his title from last week). The 4s Cup run came to an end with a 6-3 defeat. 2 goals for Aaron Loftus, and one for Sonny Kennedy (although a costly sin bin for the latter). The 7s has an up and down game, eventually coming away with a 3-3 draw. 2 goals for Niall Kelly and 1 for Ryan Burchell (although did the latter miss a good chance at the end?). Onwards and upwards, and hopefully a full set of fixtures next week!

Not a greatNot a great set of results but the 1s got a great point in a nil nil draw at Civil Service (Pics from the game) but Rat MOM and Jimbo DOTD, 2 slost 2-1 in a close cup tie with Dom Preece going in goal while Sherbs kept for the 1s and pulling off a string of saves to earn Man Most Handsome while DQ was DOTD> 3s lost 4-2 with Denys MOM and DOTD and he scored so did Sam S/R (???). 4s lost 4-3 after being 3-1 up at HT. and 5s lost 5-2 (scorers Aaron Byrne and Josh F-S) 6s no game 7s game got cancelled.

Coaches Needed – The Youth section urgently need coaches. In order to coach/manage a youth team you need to have an FA level 1 coaching badge. That can be achieved at a course with five sessions. The club will pay. (app£150 fee for the course) But in order to do the coaching and manage the team this is quite a commitment – training is one night per week and a half day for the matches on Sunday. If you are interested call Max on 07768303423 to learn more!!!

Today’s results – it was an away day at HSBC with three of our teams there. The 1s lost 4-2 after being 2-0 up in tough conditions against a strong side. (Chas 2 goals) the 3s won 4-0 (scorers Tom B hat trick and Michael Gibson Iain Evans DOTD) but Darren Fitz was off to hospital with a nasty rib injury. 4s won 5-2 ater being 2-0 down (Sonny Kennedy (MOM) 2, Dom P will Toms and Will Harrison but Joe P DOD) 5s lost 4-2 AET at South Bank Aron Byrne scored twice. Kieran Lee was MOM but Josh F-S was DOTD being sin binned in ET that always helps. 6s won their cup game at HSBC 7-3 Tony 3, Callum 2, George B and Trey. Callum with MOM and DOTD Chappell for his outburst and water bottle throwing antics at the Gaffer.(Team pic below)

Todays results – 1s match was postponed as was 5s and 7s and as it turned out the 6s as pitch waterlogged and no ref.

But 2s lost 3-2 away to Cambridge Heath on good old Hackney Marshes,

The 3s lost 2-0 at home well not really home but a very wet Commons extension but the 4s with the result of the day won 6-3 at West Wickham with the goalscorers Aaron Loftus (2) Dom Plumbridge (2) and Ryan Burchell and Michael Vogt one apiece.

6s pitch at Wimbledon Common Extensions.

Phil Quinlan’s funeral today – For our current members Phil will probably only be known as the father of Martin (800+ games) Quinlan but Phil played a real part in the development of this club, playing for many years, captaining and playing for the 1s and then playing down through the teams. He was not only secretary but also brought up his three sons to play for Merton. The funeral was very well attended with lots of his old team mates paying tribute to him. There was a wreath from the club which said ‘Thank you for all you did for the club where you will always be remembered with great affection’ A sad day but it was obvious from the service and those attending that he was a special person and a very nice man. RIP.
